Monday Morning Motivation

I am in love with motivational quotes and like many people, especially love scrolling through Pinterest or Instagram on a Monday morning before starting work, to get my enthusiasm up for the week ahead.

In particular, I am a big fan of inspirational quotes on the topic of writing – who would have thought, right? However, dreams are also a theme I like to revisit regularly, as for me, writing is my dream and I think we all need that little reminder every now and then that no matter what life throws at us, we can keep moving forward towards our goals.

With this in mind, today’s post is going to be a short and sweet share of some of my favorite inspirational quotes. I hope you find them just as inspiring as I do!

The teacher that told me ‘no’!

I’d like to think I am not the sort of person to hold a grudge but even I must confess to not always being a saint about this. In fact, there is a grudge I have been holding on to – for over 16 years now…

But in many ways, this grudge is a good thing. It has fuelled me through hard times and given me enough determination to overcome obstacles and fight the battle for my dreams.

Back when I was just 12 years old I used to take support classes for my dyslexia. Now here’s the confession no writer ever wants to make – my thirteenth birthday was coming up and I still could not read or write!Read More »

Winning

With all the daily bustle and grind we put ourselves through; the thankless tasks, the hardships no one else sees, the constant nagging feeling of having something else to do…it can be hard to focus when life gets busy or rush. But when we have an overwhelmingly long list of tasks and commitments, we must also remember to take a little time to stop and celebrate the wins in life.

Admit it! How often do you throw your hands up in the air, jump up and down and scream at the top of your lungs ‘I got the kids to bed on time!‘. Probably never. And though this might be partly due to not wanting to wake said children up again, its because you probably also think it’s not an accomplishment worth shouting about. And I’m here to tell you it is!Read More »

Peeling Back The Glamour – Things Nonwriters Never Think About

When I first told people I wanted to be a writer I received one of two reactions. The first was The Scoffer – ‘why on earth would you want to do that?’ The second, the Misconstrued Enabler – ‘of course, you want to be a writer, it’s easy and you get to wear pajamas all day!’

Of course, as writers, we know that both of these responses are ridiculous, wrong and based on uneducated naivety. Having said that, before we leap to our own defenses we must also acknowledge that some of what they say is true.Read More »

The Art Of Breaking Things Down

One of the best pieces of advice I have ever come across for being productive was to ‘finish’. Simply put, it means no multi-tasking. Complete a task before moving on to the next thing. Don’t leave projects unfinished. Don’t stress. If you start it – finish it!

And this really is brilliant advice. Multi-tasking by its very nature is counterproductive. Things just do not get finished. Instead of one or two finished jobs at the end of the day to cross off of the To-Do list, you are left with several half-finished jobs and more anxiety for tomorrow.

So by taking the time to ‘finish’ a task, we eliminate it completely. The chore is done and we can move on to the next thing. We don’t have to be busy. Just focused.Read More »

How To Organise Your Bag To Suit Your Lifestyle

To herald the Christmas Period this past year, both my handbag and purse decided to fall to bits, developing large holes due to wear and tear. As well as looking trustworthy, these holes became particularly problematic when my purse fell onto the pavement through said hole and almost became a distant memory.

As sods law dictates the usual role of these items as Christmas presents was not forthcoming. But Lady Luck was not so bitterly disposed as Amazon vouchers were plentiful and so I recently splurged on both a brand new handbag and purse.

But I don’t want the same thing to happen again. I like things nice and a new handbag is a rare luxury for me. Therefore, I will not be permitting myself the liberty of committing these lovely new items to be ‘well loved’ and abused like a rubbish horde.Read More »
